Eating at The Star Gold Coast

A casino resort lives or dies on its food, because the guests who matter eat two or three meals a day inside it. The Star Gold Coast holds up: seven venues inside, and the Broadbeach dining strip a two-minute walk across the park for the nights you want out.

The signature dining room is the booking that matters. Queensland seafood and beef, a wine list that takes Australian producers seriously, and service paced to the theatre calendar. Window tables go first on weekends.

Inside the complex

The rooftop grill does the view-and-steak combination well and takes larger groups without complaint. The noodle bar and sports bar run past midnight, which matters more than it sounds when the tables keep you later than planned.

Breakfast for tower guests is a la carte in the signature room rather than a buffet. Coffee is good. The lobby bar does a respectable afternoon tea that nobody seems to know about.

Across the park: Broadbeach

Broadbeach's dining strip is a genuine restaurant precinct, not a tourist row. The modern Australian places along the boulevard are the reliable picks; the small wine bars down the side streets are the better story.

The mistake is treating the complex as a compromise. The signature room would hold its own on the strip across the road.

If you are staying three nights, eat two in the complex and one across the park. The walk is flat, lit and five minutes.

Bookings worth making early

Signature dining room on Friday and Saturday, any chef's counter seats, and private dining rooms for groups of ten or more. Everything else you can safely leave until arrival.

Dietary notes go on the booking, not the night. The kitchens are used to it and the floor team reads them.
